Dread /dred/

noun - great fear or anxiety that something bad or unpleasant will happen…

verb - to be seized or arrested by fear or anxiety for an unpleasant circumstance

When I was younger, it felt like i could change reality if i dreamed hard enough,

At night, as i drift to sleep beneath the glow of liquid crystal,

My thoughts would culture and bead,

rolling from my eyes into the ocean of stars

And somewhere among those shining isles,

a pearl would drop,

And offer an escape from this isolation.

Night comes

and the world goes silent-

except the sound of machines:

working all hours

to farm energy,

keeping the many infernos alive,

working till the world's drained

to the last drop.

What tide will deliver me from these woes?

What wailing moans will quiet the seas of discontent?

Protect my peace?

Focus on healing?

Ha!

I prayed for a drop,

and got an ocean

crashing across this artificial face.

Feel like a person,

live like a robot:

the solution that seals the heavens

behind a firmament of liquid crystal-

An artificial

Philosophers’ Stone.

I've become a drone,

trapped in this vast net.

What a cruel deceit.
